Digital Anemometer
An anemometer is a tool used to measure wind speed. The name comes from the Greek word for wind, anemos.
There are many different tools to measure wind speed, from complex (acoustic, ultrasonic, laser Doppler, and pitot tubes) to very simple (wind socks).
This vane anemometer works like an electric fan in reverse. Whenever wind pushes the vanes and spins the shaft, the mechanical force is converted to electricity. This signal corresponds to wind speed measurement; stronger wind produces a higher measurement. Since it’s digital, it can also convert the measurement to different scales, as well as calculate the volume of airflow.
Anemometers are great for sailing, archery, kite and drone flying, and many other outdoor hobbies. It can also be useful indoors to check the velocity and temperature of an air conditioner, heater, or to determine if a computer’s cooling fan is adequate.
This anemometer also measures on the Beaufort Wind Force Scale which was created by the hydrographer Francis Beaufort in 1805 and is still used around the world today. This scale was originally designed so that one could approximate the current wind speed on the open sea using only visual cues.
Waterproof. Includes silicone case, wriststrap, battery, and manual.
