Description
Redwood Seeds
These tiny seeds can grow taller than any other type of tree on the planet.
Coast Redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens) are a species of evergreen trees in the genus Sequoia. They are the tallest living species of tree and they can live for over 2,000 years.
Redwoods can grow taller than the Statue of Liberty with trunks up to 9m (30ft) in diameter. The current tallest tree on Earth is a Redwood named Hyperion at 380ft (115 m). Its location is kept secret to keep it safe.
Their lumber is largely resistant to decay and highly fire-resistant since it can absorb water well. Because of these special properties, Redwood timber is among the most valuable in the wood industry; fortunately, Redwoods are also among the fastest growing trees.
Interestingly, Redwoods can also be grown as bonsai. Research the growing conditions in your area. This species loves fog, and their height has been found to correlate to the amount of fog they get regularly.
